    This is a thing I do every time I buy a second hand car, this gives me a good indication on the internal state of the engine.
    Smoke and pressure coming out of the dipstick or oil cap generally means a worn engine. This is why I am worried after 13 000km.
    With video of non smoking cars I can go to Maserati and ask them to fix it.

    I've never tried removing the dipstick on any car whilst engine is running because there's no reason to do so. I will go a check soon and let you know.

    Sorry for delay, as your answers were in the sort of Chat, I did not see them, I use the mail, no 1000 chrs restriction.
    I live in the South of France, hot in the summer.
    Car is new 13 000km 80% Mway.
    It would be nice if you could do the test (video if possible) engine idle and dipstick removed, nothing should come out. ([email protected])
    With video I can go to Maserati to ask for explanations..
    I have Launch X431 Diag tool, DPF is good, Oil colour is not too black, changed it 3500km ago. (Always dark it is a Diesel)
    The breather is on the inlet pipe next to the bulkhead, under the cover.

    The only other thing it could be is a blocked DPF which may bring out the above symptoms. I am not sure where in the world you live but where I live we have companies called Terraclean. This would be your best route to test your DPF and have it cleaned. If you are doing short journies then it's likely to be the culprit. It's worth getting them out to your car and checking anyway just to rule it out. The charge for a check and DPF clean is around £150-200. Not sure what the charge would be just to check it and find out it's clear?
    So conclusion and this is just my opinion and I am not a mechanic. I think your problems could be related and they are pressure related problems made worth by temp increase. Even if we are not talking engines, pressure will increase with temp rise.
    Have a word with a professional and also Terraclean for their expert advise.

    Sorry for delay in replying, I am new to this forum and thought I'd receive a better notification than I did do for a PM
    I've not experienced any of those symptoms you describe mainly because the external temperature in NW of UK barely goes past 25C
    Is your symptom with the engine running or not? I've only removed my dipstick with engine off. If you are getting pressure then I suspect you have excess crank case pressure and the breather is blocked somehow. I don't know where this is located on the engine, I'll have a look around.
    Also have your checked the colour of your oil, is it black or golden coloured? It could be the type of oil you've been using.
    If you do have a blocked breather then this might explain your first problem but I've never heard of a diesel combustion sound above 25c before.

    Sorry to bother you by PM, as you also have a Diesel Ghibli, I'd be interested by a couple of things on yours compared to mine which worry me and the garage does not seem to care too much.

    1st I have a loud Diesel combustion sound under very light load between 1000 and 1800 when he external temp is above 25ºC below 20ºC the engine is quite as a mouse, engine hot or cold.

    2nd which really worries me is the amount of blow by through the dipstick. I have made a video, but I can't seem to insert it in this message.

    If you send me an a mail to [email protected] I'll email you the video, impressive for a new engine.
    I'd be interested to see if other Ghibli's have the same issue or if mine has a major problem 13 000km Jan 2017.
