Can anyone recommend the easiest way I can simply add a compatible sized sub speaker to stock factory location? I do not have the premium sound package and thus have this large hole on my rear deck. I am looking for basic advice on what sub might fit(even if I have to buy a takeoff it's fine, prefer a different brand), amp, and possible location to pull the signal from. I have had my car audio completely redone in my previous cars and after all the effort and thousands spent it took way too much too much in equipment and troubleshooting issues to make me happy. Now all I want is a simple sub add. I appreciate any advice any of you can give me. Thanks

Does the non premium come not come with a sub? I get decent base but at higher volumes there is a rattle from the front driver side speaker and the sound quality is not that good.

Confirmed there is no sub in the base system. Put my hand into the sub enclosure in the trunk and was surprised to feel the sub wiring plug sort of floating between the metal and the felt on top. There was a piece of tape that had obviously come undone!

Am keen to add a sub to the system. Wondering what is the best model to use without modifying the rear deck mounting. Any advice?

So it is ready wired for a sub? So if you install one, will the system recognise this and adapt the way it transmits the sound across the speakers? Or is something else required? A systems update? An amplifier?

Don't know. Looking for the same answers.

My guess is that it should work. There is no point in putting the wiring in if it would be pointless to hook it up to a sub. Best way to figure out may be to ask a dealer if they will install a factory sub and what it would entail.

Bass is low frequency and not directional so I don't think the profile of the sound from the other speakers needs to change. If I can figure out the type of plug, can easily test by hooking up test sub without major install work.

Hi,
The base sound system is driven from the head unit. There is no separate amp.
There is no subwoofer but the grill and mounting cutout (oval) is there but no wiring.

I have just had mine upgraded by an excellent specialist (UK). We replaced the front door speakers and tweeters with Audison Voce K6 components. We left the rear as we have the fade full to the front to create a soundstage on the dash with the sweet spot being the driver.
Ignore the fact that the sub space is oval. I had a Hertz F30.5 12 inch round low profile.
All this driven by an Audison Prima AP8.9 bit combined amp and DSP.
Only been in a couple of days so too early to report on in detail as speakers need to be run in and it has only had a basic tuning.
So far so fabulous!

Hi MORPAUL

Interested in your upgrade & may be asking where you had it done, I'm not far from you.
Waiting to hear your comments when run in.
Have to confess although it goes against the grain, am severely tempted to take the plunge myself.

Ok the cost would be £1800 or so for what I had.
I'll report more in c 3 weeks after the final tuning. The DSP part of the box is really clever. He uses time lapses to get the right signals to the right place in the stage.
The amp is also clever in getting its feed from the signals to the existing signals which it de-equalises etc. that way no messing with the head unit and all warning sounds e.g. Parking aids still work as normal.

Just heard back from the dealer. ~$4k estimate for them to put a sub in.

Essentially, will need a new harness, new amp and wiring. Definitely not a DIY project.

Makes me think a $3k estimate to upgrade with aftermarket is a good deal.

Never done one of these before. Should I be worried about warranty etc?

Why would you do anything from Maser? Number 1 issue on forum is factory sound system.
Was not the intention. Wanted to understand complexity of the change. It's clearly too complex to do ones self. Includes reprogramming the head unit so have my doubts anyone can do this aftermarket yet (remember I'm on the base system, not premium)

I like what MORPAUL did for his setup and since I have a lease I think it's the easiest to reverse before I return the vehicle but I am asking if anyone here knows of a place in NY which I can trust to do this install.

Thanks.

Gibs,
You clearly didn't read my post carefully. It can be done. Just depends what you want to do. Adding a sub alone won't compensate for the substandard door speakers and tweeters. Suggest you talk to an In Car Entertainment specialist.

Anyone have recommendations for a Bay Area specialist? Preferably the South Bay.

Also, does installing an aftermarket system impact the warranty in any way (especially given its not a simple replacement of the components)?

@MORPAUL:
Did you listen to just the front speakers upgraded with amp(without sub)?
As this was my plan- I thought 6.5" speakers shod give decent bass if good enough quality and paired with good amp?

Also - was your sub free air or did you get it enclosed?

Thanks
