Hi,
Has anyone in the UK had an aftermarket sound system fitted to their Ghibli? I have the base system but would like to upgrade.
Cheers

I have the premium, not a patch on the XF Bowers & Wilkins.
I find it annoying once you have experienced a quality system to revert to a mediocre set up in a far superior vehicle.
Am starting to wonder if I will gradually get accustomed to it.

I have listened to base/ premium and b&w. None are worth the price, in
Comparison to £1000 I spent On my BMW which knocks both the upgraded audios out the park.

I am considering getting the base audio and will just upgrade.

In London I have spoken to 2 audio centres who will
Upgrade. I am Just planning to keep my genesis 5 channel amp and then replace front speakers with 2 way components (tweeter and 6.5 inch woofer) such as Morel/audio voce/focal speakers. For me this would suffice .
I have left the rear declk out of the equation as it's an
Oval subwoofer.
I would be interested to know what you had in
Mind?

Hi.
I have an open mind. I like more bass so would go for a sub but apart from that no prefs. I am well out of date with aftermarket gear these days.

Certainly more base.
The deep rich sound is no longer there.
I also find it more difficult to find the sweet spot & it ends up showing somewhere towards the back of the n/s rear seat.

Mine is due in 2 weeks or so, with the prem sound system, already trying to find out speaker replacement options. anyone know the factory speaker sizes and the location of the amplifier? heard the amp may be in the boot somewhere?

I think before you even consider going for aftermarket audio is looking into sound deadening material, Dynamat being one of them, it can greatly enhance the quality of what your current setup sounds like. Ultimately this is to give you really clean sound, I think after that, then it would be good to consider going for higher output speakers.

Thanks ratti, not to sound too daft, but where all would you fit the Dynamat?
I used Dynama with aftermarket speaker components. I chose Hertz speaker components (6.5" with tweeter). I shut off the center channel as it offers very little. The factory amp is in the trunk on the drivers side wall. I shut it off and installed an Audison amp with Audison's signal processor and BIT One controller. The Hertz 6.5 components fit exactly into the factory speaker housings to so no medications but I did insulate the speaker housings with Dynamat. I also added a JL sub to replace the factory sub. I now have 1800 watts of power and will easily blow the doors off of the B&W option. That said, I paid $6.5K (including install) for this solution. You can spend 1/2 of what I did and still have a system that will be equal or likely better then the B&W option.

I have located an audio dealer who deal regularly with Maserati.

The PLAN is for Stock system upgrade:

- genesis amp
- 3 way morel speakers
- small 8" sub hidden near glovebox

The pricing will be MUCH cheaper than B&W and I suspect not too different in sound, but I'll have to reserve judgment till done!

I don't see how changing speakers invalidates a car warranty, but Maserati actually send their cars to these guys, plus these audio specialists have insurance against any issues.

They work on high end cars. They had some v rare cars being worked on in their workshop which made me comfortable for them to work on mine.

Incidentally mine is arriving 21st-23rd.......hoorah!

I have the premium audio & have recently fitted quite a large sub & amp in the boot.
A great improvement with plenty of bass & an all round richer sound... Am finally satisfied.

Ok. I can now summarise the upgraded sound system installed on my diesel. It had the basic system installed.
I decided on a soundstage approach where there is full fade to the front tweeters and door speakers. No centre speaker and a sub under the parcel shelf. Time alignment ensures the base gets to the front to match up with the rest. The appearance is like being at a concert.
The BIGGEST issue was the parcel shelf. The fixed shelf and the cover all had to be heavily insulated and sound leaks blocked. The rear brake light also needed damping.
Here is what was done:

Audison K6 component speakers, installed on custom made adapters and doors sound deadened using Skinz.
Standard speaker wires to front doors intercepted and sent to the Audison 8.9 bit mounted on a custom bracket where the premium system amp would normally live.
Rear shelf deadened with Skinz, and a barrier of 6mm closed cell foam applied. Sub installed was a Gladen 8" active subwoofer model number US-8 mounted in a custom made "caddy" attached to the underside of the shelf.

A little EQ was used and time alignment set to give you a soundstage on or above the dashboard with a nice focused centre image.

Sounds brilliant.
The installer is Gavin from Subtronix between Mansfield and Sutton in Ashfield. His number is 07961 760617.
