Hi everyone! Ghibli newbie here.

I inherited a 2017 Ghibli (M156D) from my dad due to his old age and it needs a full service ASAP because he hasn't had the energy to look after it.

1) I wonder if I can switch to 5w-30 grade oil?

I have been using FUCHS Titan GT1 Pro C-3 5w-30 on my other cars (an Audi A4 and a Toyota Camry) with good results. Their engines are quieter and fuel economy is better.

2) How often do I need to change gearbox oil? What specs oil do I need?

Thanks.

Hi Mesquire,
NO DONOT USE 5W30 on this engine, Maserati use to use it, since they had a few failures, they recommend 5W40.
I personally use 10W40
I use this one.
Shell Rimula R6LM 10W40.

As for the Gearbox, you can find special kits on Ebay. You also have to change the sump filter if you do it.

I spoke to the Maserati tech. apparently, you never have to change it.
ZF recommends 80 000-120 000km.

Hope this helped.

Yes, if you don't want to seize the engine.
A 5W40 low Saps to limit the oil soot stuck in the DPF.

Thanks everyone. I added 8L of these to the Ghibli today - the

old oil was black as ****. The mechanic reckon the last oil change was a year ago!

The oil looks OK to me.
The black oil comes from the EGR recirculating Gases.
It is a nightmare this EGR valve.
This why I remapped mine with the EGR closed.
FIRST it cleans the inlet manifold
SECOND it keeps the oil much cleaner
THIRD it doubles he distance between regeneration of the DPF.
FORTH a lot less pollution, what ever anyone says.

Amazing the amount of soot an EGR valve generates.

Other than it is probably expensive (I am still 4 months or 6000 miles from my first oil change), why would you not use what is recommended for a Ferrari twin-turbo: ??
Synthetic multigrade lubricants SAE 10W/60 that
meet API SN/CF and ACEA A3, B3, B4 specifications.
Recommended oil: PENNZOIL Platinum Racing 10W-60.

Hi Union73,
Mesquire has a Diesel version, not the same oil at all.
Thanks for your input anyway.
