I have a Ghibli Diesel on standard suspension. Is anybody else with this spec experiencing excessive suspension noise on uneven or broken road surfaces? It is fine on smoother road surfaces. But on uneven or broken road surfaces it becomes very unpleasant. Difficult to describe the actual noise, but its like the normal noises, eg thuds and pops you would expect, are being massively amplified.

I have had a few Maseratis, including Gransports and Granturismos, and I have never experienced suspension noise as bad as this.

Looking to order but haven't driven base suspension (demos seem
To have skyhook). How do you find it over London roads (and bumps)?

I assume open road and handling still very good (compared with normal setting on skyhook)?

I also have a diesel base suspension but only hear a rattle in the back on uneven broken streets, which I sure can be fixed.
I don't have an overall bad impression

Did you checked the tire pressure? Is it too high/much?

Base suspension handles pretty well over London's potholes - I have the 20 inch wheels on mine. I've only got comparisons against cars with much firmer sports suspension, so I find the Ghibli absorbs the bumps much better.

You do have to go over speed bumps pretty slowly though. The front two pieces of plastic in front of the tyres are quite low down, so it's easy to scrape them.

I also have the 20s on mine. If you were experiencing this noise i believe you would know about it. There is a suggestion that it may be a problem with the very early cars that Maserati have since resolved. Car is going in tomorrow to try to identify the issue. I know of one other owner locally who is experiencing the same issue.

I was hoping there might be an owner with the same suspension/wheels set up reasonably nearby that doesn't have it that I could compare with.

Test drove base suspension today - no obvious noise but that was only for 20mins - better than my BMW Msport suspension (even over speed bumps) so no need for skyhook in my case ( although the skyhook is probably superior)

No noise from my base suspension on 19 in wheels. Do agree about slow speed over humps and bumps being necessary due to lowness of this car compared to previous saloons I have owned.

Noises aside- is everyone happy with the handling of the base suspension?
Or does anyone wish they'd gone for skyhook?

I was thinking of 19inch with base suspension.

I drove a 20inch on base suspension and a 19inch on skyhook.
(The skyhook seemed to be flat round the corners and so
that was alluring but the base seemed good also)- it's always difficult to tell in only a 15 min drive, but there's a big premium off course.

Grateful to know what others think
Of their cars?

Noise issues aside, I think the base suspension is very good. And a friend and Maserati specialist with a lot more experience than me considers the base suspension at least as good as Skyhook. Indeed there has been feedback to Maserati that there is neither noticeable difference between base and Skyhook, nor between the comfort and sports Skyhook settings.

I also understand from Maserati that the noise issues that there have been on some base suspension cars have also been present on at least one Skyhook car.

Having driven the base for 2 months now I am very happy with it. It felt firm at first compared to the 7 series but now if anything it feels more comfort orientated. It is certainly better than my wife's Audi which has a much firmer ride.

Having not had extended experience with the Skyhook I cannot say is it is any better or worth the extra but I do not notice much difference between the car I have and the one I tested which had the Skyhook.

Looking to order my car with the sports package and wondering if skyhook is really worth it. Hard to tell from the posts above, so is the jury out yet on whether the skyhook is worth it.
Like a sporty firm drive when needed but the confort otherwise. Thanks
