Dashboard ripple

Looking to buy my first Ghibli S. Saw two 2017s with dashboard ripple in the middle at the windshield. Is that a common problem? Any ideas how that would happen? The rippling was the same in both cars. I thought it might be due to sun exposure, but one of the cars had under 3k miles, so not likely. Do you know if that would be covered by the manufacturer warranty?

I wouldn't say its common, but it happens. I have a 2014 with no ripple. I put a high quality 3M Crystalline on windshield (70%) to reduce heat and UV damage along with proper annual leather treatments.
That said, the cars you are looking at regardless of mileage might have been parked outside in direct sunlight and not sure what area of country they were in?

The warranty would depend on how bad and dealer discretion ... certainly worth an ask.
Thanks Beer Guy. The dealership selling the car took it in to the Maserati dealer and they are replacing the dashboard under warranty. Given the Carfax report of prior service, low miles, and one owner history, I trust this one was garaged. I will definitely treat it well in the future.

Kind of a late response, but I had this problem develop last summer. I think it started when the normally garaged car was parked outside for a couple weeks in very hot weather, while on vacation. It pulled away in two places by the windshield and then rippled. It is in the dealer shop now being replaced under warranty. They don't replace the dashboard but they take it apart and replace/re-install the leather. Below is a picture of what it looked like.

My wife's 2014 did the same thing. We bought it used with 22,000+ miles on it. We keep it in the garage, and were disappointed when we first saw it, but think it was already there when we purchased it. It's a small ripple by the dash clock. Now we have a second ripple happening. Does anyone know what the Maserati factory warranty is on this sort of thing? I doubt the broker I purchased it from will fix it, or will pay for it. We never purchased a warranty, but just wondering.
The factory warranty is four years/50k miles so you are well past. You might be able to have a dealer order the dash leather and either install it or find a good auto upholstery shop. When the dealer fixed mine, the work was beautiful but the two clocks (digital and analog) were off by a little over an hour. I did not notice at first, but took it back and they manually adjusted the analog by taking it apart and have since ordered a replacement clock under warranty.

I feel for you, because these ripples are right in front of your nose and you cannot avoid seeing them, which is painful in such a beautiful vehicle.
Union. I had the same thing happen on my 2016 S. I had to purchase a entire replacement dash on EBay.. $1,200 plus. Very annoying to look at with the car being so beautiful.. Godspeed
