Hi all, recently picked up a low mileage Ghibli, I do 30k a year now and my V8 S5 doing 28-30mpg was getting hard to justify. I wanted something different to the norm, seating 4 with ease and can cruise along getting 45mpgs. After looking at merc and BMW's it all felt very plain to be spending 2.5 hours aday.

Coming from the S5 clearly I'm dropping a chuck of performance, I'm considering a remap in an effort to get somewhere nearer. After lots of reading I've only really found company reviews and very few personal review. I'm not looking for all out power, I want it drivable and reliable.

People's experiences? Recommendations? Companies to all out avoid?

I'm based in Lincoln but travel to within the M25 on occasion and anywhere between.

I get 30 to 35 with my Ghibli Diesel remapped. I'm actually re-working on the throttle map at the moment, 1st try she is not reactive enough.

Like Toshy your S5 is amazing for that size of engine.

I can't advise you for the UK as I live in France, all I can say is make sure they close the EGR valve.
As I said in an other thread, dismantle the EGR tube going in the inlet manifold you'll be surprised, you can also have an idea of the "Cr.p" in there by dismantling the turbo pressure sensor.

To remap these you have to take the ECU out, and it has to be opened on a bench. It is an EDC17C79, do you have Adblue?

30 mpg out of a 4.2l v8? WOW! What universe is that?
UK gallon helps (if you are US!) but that's a steady cruise to work, 100 mile round trip at 60 mph. In traffic more like 20mpg, spirited it down to 10ish......

Yes more like it.
In these conditions you might hit 40 with the Ghibli.

"Spirited" with the Ghibli, South of France twisty roads, I get 26. That is pushing in Sports mode no prisoners taken :D

A remap is well worth it. Don't aim too high as there is a DPF on the line, don't want to "kill"it.
Make sure the guy extends the torque curve to beyond 3200, I found that in Std it is short of breath passed 3200, I now get a good pull till 4200 in Std and Sport mode.

We did not pass it on a rolling road, but we tested it with an accelerometer on the center of the wheel.

We got 650Nm and 305HP.

I will remod the map to get quicker throttle response in normal mode and probably boost to 670Nm and 310-315HP. But no more.

If you can do without a car for a week or so, you can send the ECU to a shop or to us for remapping.
ECU is removed in 10 minutes or less.
I'll give you the link of the workshop in private mail.
Not so sure about advertising here.

I have a Ghibli Diesel and put a BlueSpark Automotive box (the 2 channel one) on it. Adds around 60bhp and 100Nm. Certainly gives it a bit more urge in the midrange.
I have used the boxes on other Diesel cars and never had any issues.

It s important to have a removable unit in the UK now and the latest MOT emissions test require the car to conform to OEM emissions. With these boxes on, they fail, but fortunately they have a bypass plug to defeat them.
