Well...I've never heard a Gibli sound like that. At first I thought you may have a dog in the car playing with a squeaky toy ! Some very strange sounds & it sounds generally 'really' rough. I would certainly have it looked at soon if mine was making those sounds.

Maybe the sound quality of the clip isn't so good ? Do you think it represents what your hearing ?

Is it the 'squeak' sound or at one point I thought I heard a 'whoosh'...like a turbo waste gate dump ? Both I couldn't relate to being 'normal'

Lol this is nuts I literally can't find anything about this anywhere on the ghibli and then you make a post describing word for word what I am experiencing. I have the exact same sound as your video on my 2015 sq4. I liken it to a owl hooting noise. My best guess is that it is the blow off valve possibly going bad/ releasing pressure at the wrong times. Curious to hear more as mine has always made that sound it seems like. Would love to hear from other owners on here.

This is the sound we hear when the turbo goes up on charge. I put the microphone on top of the engine, you can see the photo here
Micro

It's as if the wastegate released the pressure by jerks and not all of a sudden, you know what I mean?

Well granted Idk too much about how the BOV works on the ghibli I am assuming its one of the ones that reroutes the released air into the intake. But if it were to go bad it would possibly be releasing bits of air early or something?

Seeing 'where' (in the engine bay) the microphone was for the recording now makes more sense...I initially thought that was from inside the car cabin. Well I can't add any more than my Ghibli seems less talented than yours at making 'unusual' sounds. I still go with the 'that's not normal'.

Maybe I don't know enough even if I actually have the impression that the management of pressure release must be defective?

I also thought maybe it could possibly come from the gasket of the exhaust manifold.

What do you think?

I can attest to the fact it sounds exactly like that inside the cabin its just not as prominent.

I had to go into the city this morning so decided to take the Ghibli (curious to replicate something along the lines of your video) It's about 18km from home with a combination of suburban & freeway driving.

The only sound with the turbo's is when they spool up from low revs (1500/2000rpm...similar range to yours) when accelerating at around half throttle. There is definitely, I guess what 'could' be described as an owl sound (not sure) but it's very consistent & smooth & builds gently...it's actually quite a nice sound, nothing like your clip. So probably nothing more I can add on this apart from, I don't feel it's normal.

But, good luck & hope you get it sorted out & let us know what the problem was...Cheers Mark

Hi everyone,

My Ghibli have a weird sound when I accelerate slowly around 1800/2200 rpm or when I use the cruise controle on the highway.
It sounds like a wastegate.
You can hir on this link: https://kdrive.infomaniak.com/app/share/101952/2ed62612-66c2-4d2e-a963-cf85661bce38

Has anyone ever had this sound?

Thanks for your help !
I get a similar sound in my 2015 Q4. I asked the tech at the dealership and was told it's normal, apparently Maserati uses a vacuum wastegate part, forgot what it's called but I even replaced it thinking it would help, it didn't. Yours seems to make more noise, more frequent than mine. Mine tends to do it when I keep the throttle consistent then accelerate lightly.
The part is like $80 bucks and takes 5 minutes to change. Yours could be a little worn. Here's a picture of the part.
