Anyone knows how to disassemble the headrest? Removing it is easy, but actually taking it apart. My Driver side headrest is rattling inside and I wanted to see if I can fix it.. it is our of warranty.

Most issues with rattling from that area are actually because of the dried leather rubbing on the plastic tabs. Moisturize and condition the leather (you should do it regularly anyway) first and see if it solves it.

the rattle is caused by the tilt mechanism cracking apart. there was once an attempt at a rebuild kit, but i don't think the headrests were surviving the process. repair is a complete new head rest nowadays.
the headrest is floppy in addition to the rattle?

My driver side headrest was replaced under warranty, when 3 years old, as it was suddenly flopping about.
It was a surprise to me, as I never really use the headrest when driving. I was stopped in traffic, put my head back and found it very loose. No adjusting done, the dealer just ordered a replacement.

I'd be interested in seeing if they can be disassembled to the point we could get the leather off cleanly, have the embossed emblem stitched and then reassembled. I've always wanted a Maserati with contrast stitched headrests, just wasn't an option for us in '14.

That's true that the mechanism is cracking.
Here are some photos how to disassemble the headrest

1. Unscrew two torx in the lower part of the headrest

2. Remove the button. Insert thin flat screwdriver in the marked areas and lift the button. It should pop out.
Unscrew the silver torx and then lift the button housing. It should pop out as well.

3. Insert a flat blunt tool in between front and rear part of the headrest in its upper part, lift it and wait until it pops out :)

4. To remove the mechanism, unscrew 3 torx

5. If the headrest was floppy before, then the plastic mechanism is cracked. Unfortunatety it is not available as a spare part and the only way to repair it is to weld it. Try to find a local shop which is specialized in plastics welding - that's the only way to fix it

Hope you'll find this manual useful :)

Hi, you say removing the headrest is easy but is it just a case of pulling on the two silver paperclip shaped clips hidden in the seat to release it? . Is there a knack to doing it or is it intuitive, I assume to put it back you just push them back in place to hold the headrest. . I'm worried they will drop into the seat and be lost forever.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance
