This is the first time that a supercar maker (Italian or otherwise) has opted to put a oil burner in their lineup. There has been a lot of talk about exactly what this diesel engine will sound like. Well, here you are:

There is definitely an Active Exhaust system that renders the sound we hear, but credit to Maserati for making a diesel engine that sounds pleasing.

If you drove it around town, I don't think people would guess that it runs on diesel. Unless it smells different, but as far as the sound goes, it is a nice purr without a husky diesel growl.

Agreed, but apparently on the inside it's not the same story.
How so? Do you mean that the engine is not the best diesel engine around, or that the sound from the diesel engine isn't the same when you are inside the Ghibli (because of noise insulation or something?)

Though I haven't driven a Ghibli yet, reviewers have said that the sound on the inside is not as nice as it would seem from the outside.
