Learned an expensive lesson this week. Last week my engine management light came on so popped on my ODB and got a P1D3000 "Low Oil Viscosity code", the oil was changes at service in November and that car has done around 3000 miles since then so thought an oil and filter change should do the trick, couldn't get booked into the dealer for two weeks and they wanted £169 just to do a code read, so used an independent garage I use regularly, bought a genuine filter and the correct 5W40 shell oil and reset the oil service life £200, bargain.

Job done drove the car for 10 mins and the light came back on, Called Maserati explained the problem and they booked the car in for today. When I arrived, the salesperson informed me that the ECU had probably not been reset and could only be done by them and not with my ODB and they would not do it as they had not changed the oil and filter. So long story short, even though the oil was less than a week old they did another oil and filter change and ECU reset for £400, not to worry I got a free car wash.

Think I need to invest in a new ODB that can talk to the ECU any recommendations are welcome.

So you can reset the maintenance counter yourself on many ODB readers. However, the oil quality counter has to be done at a specialist. Not sure after how many miles the counter triggers.

On the Diesel I don't think there are any consumers readers that do it.

Hi Guys, I do it with a Launch 431.
The procedure is different on a Diesel, you have 2 resets to do:
The annual and 20 000km service you can see on the Dashboard.
The oil contamination due to the DPF which you can't see at all, only with a specific Diag.

Maserati ripped you off.

Thanks Fredvr, I know I was ripped off by the dealer as the 2nd oil service in a week was totally unnecessary as the car is out of warranty and a simple reset was all that was required, even though I showed them the paperwork for genuine parts and correct oil they would not budge, hence wanting to be able to do it myself in the future. Not being a tech wizard, is the process easy to do with a launch 431?

Yes Lenny, it is relatively easy.
The Dashboard reset is done via the Petrol model one, same as the Diesel, the soft only has the Petrol reset, but you can use it to do it on the Diesel.
For the DPF dilution function you have to find it it the Parameters menu, it takes me a while to find it each time, as I only do it once every 2 years, but easily done and fairly straight forward once you found the line in the soft.

For a Launch 431, you can either buy the official relatively expensive one, or if you have an Android tablet with minimum 32Gb best 64Gb, I can give you a contact who can sell you the soft with the Bluetooth adapter and 1 year update for a lot cheaper.
1 year update costs around 100 Quid but if you don't want to update the soft keeps working.
Contact me by MP you need to have a Skype contact.

Thanks Fredvr, I appreciate your advise, my current MUCAR CS$ OBD2 has functions and areas that I don't even have a clue what they do, code reading, and oil reset is all I have really used it for. I will have a nose around the market and see what prices I can find a Launch for, failing that I will buy a tablet and give you a shout for your contacts details.

Thanks again for the advise.
