Just thinking out loud about when Jay Leno does celebrity gearhead interviews, and considered my own vehicle ownership history up to my Maserati. I have only owned 4 cars my entire life since I got licensed to drive as a teenager way back in 1980. About a one-per-decade average (though I also had a company Audi in London one time for 18 months). Anyone have a lower per decade average? All manual trans except the Ghibli - go figure. Not a very impressive list, but here it is:
1990.5 Volkswagen Jetta
1995 Saturn SC1
2003 Jaguar S-Type
2015 Maserati Ghibli

In truth, I did own 5 times as many motorcycles during this span....!

Way to max out your bang for the buck! I don't have that same discipline, I need to change it up! Since 2013, I've purchased/leased 6 vehicles:

2013 Audi S5 (ordered/purchased new - LOVED this car until the trident stole my heart)
2015 Ghibli SQ4 (leased new, traded in that audi after only 2 years - BAD financial move)
2016 MB GLE (leased new, wife's grocery getter, got rid of her prius yuck!)
2018 Ghibli SQ4 Gransport (ordered/purchased new after my 15 lease was up)
2017 Range Rover Sport SC Dynamic (purchased used after wife's MB lease was up)
2014 GT MC - THE DREAM CAR (purchased last month!)

My wife doesn't work and I've been working entirely from home for the last 3.5 months. So I don't even drive much these days. But am keeping them all regardless, I love each one for different reasons. They are my toys. :)

But prior to 2013, I had only owned 3 cars in 17 years since I got my license. 2 Acura Integras (I was a wannabe ricer) and an Audi A4.

Yes, you accurately pegged me as a cheap *******! I tried to buy something I would love and keep it a long time. The Jetta I only sold because I moved out of the country for work (Audi S2 coupe days) or would have kept much longer. Motorcycles (many Italian) are my real source of fun and performance and took the place of upgraded vehicle purchase....

Wow, quite a list! My head is spinning at the thought. We have been on opposite arcs. Though I must admit that your recent GT MC posts started me leaning in that direction already....!

Any Ducati’s in that mix? I’m not a bike guy myself, but if I were, I’d give those a good look.

My GT purchase was worth every penny. Give it a good look... I may buck my own trend here and drive it until the wheels fall off. Those engines just won’t be around for much longer. Maserati is moving to in-house turbo/electrified V6s as you probably know. I just hope they get the sound right. I’m thinking they will.

I think I have a couple years on you guys, so my list looks longer: ... from youth ... family man ... mid-life crisis ... and can't take it with you.

1972 Firebird Formula 455 (Talk about throw you back in the seat power and loud) ... bought 2 years old and put 160K miles on it. I burned the treads off the rear tires in first two months of ownership.
1980 Grand Prix ( 2-year old)
1987 Grand Prix (New)
1991 Blazer (New)
1996 Sedan Deville (2-year old)
2004 Deville (Tech version with night vision and all options). New ... bought on display at auto show.
2006 Escalade (8-months old) ... really liked this one ... all options and the classic black and chrome.
2005 Jaguar XKR Convertible (still have ... mostly stored)
2006 Jaguar S Type (wife's car that went to my mother ... still her daily driver)
2014 Ghibli SQ4 ... custom ordered new + all my additions ... still looks like new with GTechniq coating and Black Pearl on tires, (image below).
Ghibli SQ4 Black Pearl 2020.jpg
2016 BMW 5 series ... New ... wife's daily driver
2016 QX80 Limited ... New ... that beast cost as much as my Ghibli and gets worse gas mileage.
Next ????????????????????????????????????

Squeezed in a photo of the black pearl there - nice!!
Performance guy from the get-go. Had a buddy in highschool with a Firebird I could bum rides from:sneaky:. Interesting progression with the Caddies. And a fellow Jaguar owner. While it was hard to part with my S-Type initially, with the Maserati in the garage not looking back.

Without question;). Still own two of them (one from new 22 years ago). And a Guzzi from 1975 I rebuilt into a cafe racer. Hondas, Yamahas, Triumphs, KTMs, Suzuki's, Kawasakis, etc, have come and gone.
Indeed, the V6 change going forward is on my mind, as are whatever styling and other updates pending. Also hard to really nail down where your individual needs and preferences lie in terms of performance, appearance, comfort, driveability, etc, etc, when choosing between Ghibli and GT.... and anything else I suppose for that matter.

Fun thread, I think I am in the same ballpark age wise as a few of you. Got my license in 1982, but bought my first car a year before with my paper route money. I have always been a car kid/guy, in order:

1975 Ford Grenada
1978 Grand Prix
1984 Ford Escort
1986 Pontiac Sunbird
1987 Pontiac Fierro (Gold!)

1987 BMW 325e (E30) (Graduated college and entered Financial Services, got tired of the IROC jokes, became a yuppy wannabe)
1980 Dodge Colt (got married, couldn't afford the Bimmer and Rent)
1990 Ford Escort
1993 BMW 740i (E32)
1998 BMW 740il (E38)
2003 BMW 745li (E65)
2007 BMW 750li (E65)
2006 BMW 750li (E65) - totalled the 2007 a year after buying it for $90,000. Went back to CPO, 2008 Financial Crisis)
2012 BMW 535xi (F10) - best bimmer of the bunch
2015 Infiniti QX60 (still own, loaded, not one option missing)
2003 BMW 540i (E39), (impulse buy off Bat, still own)
2013 VW Tiguan (still own)
2017 Maserati Ghibli (still own of course)

Wish list/always looking:
Maserati GT MC rag top

Ha - paper route money! I didn't get my first car until I left grad school - and my mom still had to help me with the downpayment.

Yup, no wife vehicles in my list (thankfully though her SUVs have always been handy to tow my motorcycles to and from the track!).
Looks like you haven't played favorites with brands.
Wow, guys, barely 2 years on average going by without another vehicle switch/addition!

Oh, my obsession and impulsiveness with cars resulted in a lot of begging and loans from my parents that I promised to pay them back for. My first 1987 bimmer was so out of my means. I was making $21,000 a year and it cost $21,000 new. Lived at home, had enough money for the car payment, insurance and "clubbing" with my friends.
