What are you folks using? There is a lot of mixed information out there some of which is backed by less than independent interests......Well based on the research i found I am planning to pull the trigger on a k40 360i with a g5 diffuser this week as my car is in port and should be delivered this week!! Pricey but driving fast will be routine and every bit helps........also getting lazer diffuser license plate covers......

I knew there would be opinions here on this topic and it does not appear to have been discussed......so have at it folks!!

When I had my Nissan GTR I had an Escort 9500 which wasn't just a detector but a deflector. The combination is technically illegal here in California but I had it mounted low underneath the steering wheel and out of sight. I only ever needed it in that car because I was inclined to do stupid things in it. Now I'm more reserved and don't really have the need for one, but I must say it worked outstanding and saved me from at least 2 or 3 tickets. Worth every penny for those days you want to act like a kid again...

Never owned a detector; always assumed they were more gimmick than functional. I'd get one if I knew:
  1. it faithfully detects radar in plenty of time for me to slow down
  2. false alarms were rare -- avoid "boy who cried wolf" effect
  3. it actually detects all forms of technology the CHP use, whatever those are now

I also wasn't aware radar deflectors existed! Want. Legal in CA? Can cops tell the signal is getting deflected? Or am I being too generous with my assumption of cop intelligence?

I drive faster in this Italian beast, under 80 is impossible on the interstates. I have to cruise at 90 just to reach 2k rpm, and even then it feels more like 75. Since I'll probably have to learn the hard way to slow down, I'd pay handsomely to delay or prevent that somber day.

Just found this. Didn't know radar jammers were federally prohibited. Nor did I know the state of Virginia is now under communist rule.

rsm,

What the deflector does is just jams the officer's gun so he can't get a reading on you. If I understand correctly, it literally just does not give him/her a reading on your speed and instead comes back blank, giving him/her absolutely no proof that you were speeding. In the world of radar detectors/deflectors, you DEFINITELY get what you pay for. I paid around $1,500 for my Escort 9500 and it positively identified a cop from about a quarter mile out every single time, without fail, allowing ample time to slow your speed. It even pops up on a little LCD screen "LASER DEFLECTED" letting you know it has worked. The only aggravating thing is that is picks up on EVERY radar signal, cop or not, so it beeps all the friggin' time and you have to press a button to turn it off. You'll literally have dozens of false radar beeps for every one that is actually a cop.

If you're going to get one, spend the money and do it right to save yourself the increasingly expensive tickets, the points on your record and traffic school.

Nice site RSM! Radar Jammers are against the law...........LAZER Jammers are not against the Law....except as noted by the site RSM found..Biggest competitor to K40 is Escort......however K40 integrates two LED lights into your dash so the system is totally discrete......none of them are perfect but my current window mount has saved my A$$ more than once and the range on the K40 is much better than my current unit.........you are correct RSM totally illegal in VA and system must be turned off while driving in VA.......I am in tri State (NY, NJ and PA). 90 MPH under 2K RPM!!! what gear? RSM What is the fastest you have reached in the lowest gear? Not really a comparison buy my Camero can get to about 85 in third...six gear tranny...need fourth to pop a 100......A apple a day.......redline every day (after break in!) and go a 100 every chance you can!!!

I'm a big Valentine1 fan. They are great at picking up all radar signals which means a lot of false alarms.

It has definitely saved me from a few tickets.

I have had bad experience with K40. The range was very limited.

I may consider the newest escort detector in the future. It offers GPS data to "learn" where false alarms are.

Ok, so I'm mistaken in confusing RADAR and LASER. Mine was definitely a laser deflector but picked up on every type of signal.

the K40 laser diffusers have been upgraded twice in the last five years..............its installed...........very nice system.........two small blue (nice color choice for a Maserati!!) leds custom installed one each over the spedo and tach and a small remote. Plus they guarantee no tickets or they pay for the first year of ownership and you can buy an extension...............Have already saved one ticket.............so we will see.......................

Radar detectors

Have you considered just driving fast and take your chances? Law of probability states that if you drive enough, sooner or later you will get caught for some stupid violation. Living the dream in Pennsylvania, I just speed, when I get caught, I go to court try to get a no points violation and move on. We owners are paying between $1000 and$1400 a month to drive our exotics. Just pay up and enjoy! Why pay $1500 for a radar detector that does not guarantee anything?

Not the same in Jeerz although in hindsight for what I paid may be cheaper to not have spent the dough...........however, NJ is tough on driving violations limiting negotiating down tickets which is written into the law so even a lawyer cannot help you............I am going to drive on the track which should take some of the need for speed on the road down a peg.....I just do not like getting them in the first place so I bought the system......

Any consensus or radar detectors laser deflectors?

What have you all done with regard to product selection (Passport Max, K40, Valentine) and installation (liocation of deflectors/detector) and choice of power source

Thanks
