For those wondering, the rear plate light on these use 36mm festoon bulbs. It's a quick 1 minutes to swap the oem halogens for LED versions. Might not be for everyone, but just wanted to provide info. I think it gives it a cleaner look being pure white and the bulbs can serve as puddle lights when I go to access the stuff from the trunk. Bulb can be faced upwards and reflected back down for less brightness as well. The ones I got were from here:
6411/ 6413/ 6418/ C6W LED 36mm (5000K) - $20.00 : AZN Optics, Your SOURCE for Automotive LED and HID Lighting!

Very nice. I noticed the night I picked up my car that the light output back there looked a little off considering all the other exterior lights are bright and crisp on the car.

Quick question, did you used to have a white C300 and were you on mbworld?

You just need a small flat nosed screwdriver and access from outside. There's a small notch on one of the lens cap ends. Put the screwdriver there and push opposite direction, then down. It's held in place by a flexible metal clip so just needs to be flexed open and slides off. Really easy. Then just pop out the OEM bulb, place the LED in, and put the cap back on. Easy plug and play with no error codes that shouldn't take you more than a minute or two. Looks clean and crisp with the pure white light in the back. LED plate lights really should have been OEM... even newer MBs and Lexus have LED plate lights.

Yup ;) I remember you too. All us car forum junkies tend to cross paths over and over again lol.

Hah that's awesome. Good to see (see?) you again. I wonder what the next car forum will be a few years from now ;-)

I'll have to PM you later, I've had a question regarding some lights we all did a GB on a while ago and I remember you were quite the lighting guru.

I didn't notice any issues. The camera wasn't really in the line of sight of the plate lights and facing away from the downward facing lights. I'll take pic of the screen of the backup camera with light on tonight when it gets dark.

Here's a pic of the reverse camera. As you can see, the part where the body of the vehicle is does look a bit brighter due to the light source, but doesn't affect the function or add glare to the camera. If anything, you can now see more clearly the area on the ground right behind the car with the extra illumination in case there's something in the way on the floor.

Excellent post, that was the first mod that I did lol. Did you also update the interior lighting as we'll?
I haven't gotten around to figuring out how to crack open some of the interior lighting yet, but will take a look at that next.

Love the look of these, anyone have any idea where we can get these from in the UK / Europe ???
The link I provided in the first post ships to the UK.
