Has anybody tried to get the SD card reader option to work?
I have tried multiple times to format a SD card and copy several .mpa files from iTunes on my Macintosh onto a SD card. What happens is that the player in the car sees the files that I copied and will play them but it also sees a extra file that starts with a period and a underline for each song file which it can't play. So if I copy 3 songs to the card, it "finds" 6 files and half of them are not usable which messes up playback on shuffle mode or when it cycles through the start of the play list. I am guessing that the files are "invisible" files or something that the mac is creating when copying the files but I can't find them anywhere or figure out how to get rid of them. Anybody know what is going on with that?

Only .mpa files not .mp3/4 ?

Thanks.

Does anyone know the maximum size of the sd card? 128Gb?
I looked for the size limitation in all the documentation with no luck.

Although I will say using half of a 16GB card (Class 10) capacity I have over 1000 songs with album artwork which was more than enough for me.

This is a combination of iTunes and Mp3 files.

Depending on bit rate of the song/file type/artwork you could get 2000-3500 songs on a 16GB card ... so never really looked for a bigger card once I did the quick evaluation.

Thanks BeerGuy, in the A8 had 2 x 32Gb SD cards in the slots with a portion of my music (currently storing about 212Gb in mp3 format), I guess the other option would be to use a 500Gb solid state portable drive into the USB port? anyone tried this? also wondering if the head unit plays mp4 movies from the USB / SD card?

Im sure there has to be some way to make that work. If thats what you really want to do, you might as well up the storage to some TB's

Just got my Ghibli that I ordered in early March with B&W. The SD card seems like the best option, and after some searching around I figured out how to make it work really well with iTunes. The documentation is really poor, so for those who are interested, I did two things to get it to work:

1) Install and enable BlueHarvest (see link at the top of this thread).
2) Copy the entire "Music" sub-folder from the Music/iTunes/iTunes Media folder from my laptop that synchs with my phone into the root directory of the SD card.
3) Insert the SD card and wait a few minutes for it to build the catalog.

Once it's done, the music is organized as in iTunes, by Artist/Album/Song (in that order), and everything maps perfectly in the MTC UI. Initial reaction is that the sound quality is much better using either of the SD card or USB cable than it is with Bluetooth.

Hope this is helpful for those struggling with the doc as I was…

I tested CD 32GB card and it works. So far I put one album in mp4 format. Plays well. This album is a mixed CD so I hoped that play would be smooth. However, after first track finished, there is around 2 sec brake so virtually mixing in ruined. Anyone have any idea how to play it seamlessly? I was able to do it in my BMW.

Thank you.

SD Card Compatibility

So ... I can't seem to get that far! I have a brand new PNY 128 GB SD/XC card (yeah, I know, I have a lot of tunes). On my MacBook, I formatted the card as a single MS-DOS partition, then loaded my iTunes library. Card looks fine to my Mac ... and to my Windoze server as well. But the Ghibli won't mount the card; the "SD CARD" button remains greyed out.

So, I'm wondering where the troubles lie:

  1. SD/XC hardware not supported?
  2. Ghibli system has 32 GB partition limit (i.e. old DOS)?
  3. Ghibli requires different format (e.g. Mac OS-Extended)?
  4. Bad card?
  5. Bad hardware in the Ghibli? Hmmm ... I think I have another card somewhere. Or I can try my friend's Ghibli.
Would appreciate any technical details others can provide on what has worked for them.

The maximum size is 32 GB, above this size the system won't be able to process the catalogue
Oh! Saw this post after I submitted mine <sigh>. "won't ... process the catalog" gives what symptoms? Does the button remain greyed out, or is there an error msg, or does it hang or what?

So, I wonder if one had multiple 32 GB partitions, then all might be recognized? Probably not.

From the comments I've read here it sounds like SDHC is supported but SDXC is not. 32GB is the limit for SDHC whereas the SDXC limit is 2TB.
Ah, bummer. Oh well, I'll stick the new card in my camera. Thanks!

One would think that, being a 2014 model (bought in June), current technology would be supported ... oh well, maybe not. I have noticed that the maps are out of date (2013 version), so I guess I'm not surprised.

It's really bad when you look at how out of date.

SDHC is a 2006 spec.

SDXC is a 2009 spec.

Just got my Ghibli back from the dealer. Had taken it in for a bunch of nits, many of which I posted elsewhere. Regarding the SD card ... I was told that a query had been put to Maserati Italy regarding SDXC support, and I should check back in about three months to see if there had been a response to the query. REALLY???
