I am wanting to purchase a spare tire for my 2014 Maserati Ghibli base and was told that it’s not possible to use one rim for the back and front???! Im basically told the 2 front rims are different from the back 2 rims???? Is this so?

I am simply wanting to have a spare in my trunk rather than the donut just in case of a flat or blowout.

Any advice or feedback would be helpful. Thanks!

Well it depends on the rims.

If you have the basic stock 18" rims...then you can use in any of the 4 positions. The tyre widths are the same for the 4 rims.

If you have other rim options from 19" & over, the front tyre will usually be a 245 profile & the rear can vary from 275/285 depending on the rim size.

The donut is your go to...as they say. Better than having a 'aerosol goo pack' which many do. You should have in the truck a compressor & a donut 17" x 275 spare that will cater for front & rear.

Thanks for your response. I just went with purchasing a donut for now. My tires are 235/50zr18 97 in front and 235/50zr18 101y in the back. It’s such a headache. I guess I’ll just buy a complete new set 2 of each. I had an Lexus IS 250 that actually was the same way with larger tire in back. I checked out eBay and noticed all those that had my exact Maserati rims stated the rim has to be front or rear. So unfortunate I don’t want to ride around with two tires in the trunk lol.

Hi Adra...you have no problem as you have the stock rims with rim & tyre size the same for all 4, so all interchangeable with each other.
You just need 1 more the same for the spare. The 101y & 97 (?) are speed/load ratings only. The 97 (?) is rated for speed up to 168mph & the 101Y up to 186mph, so you should be good. (unless you have a 'very' fast Ghibli')...
