Steering Wheel Vibration & Noise

Hello :)
My 2014 Ghibli Diesel developed a fault after I had owned it for 12 months: on applying steering lock in either direction from stationery an audible buzz/rumble is heard and vibration is felt throughout the cabin.
Been to the dealer under extended warranty who replaced the whole steering system, the fault is still there as before. Dealer now claims it is normal to hear noise and feel vibration when applying steering, other Ghiblis do it, they said!!
Has anybody else had this problem and if so, was there a cure?
Very grateful for any replies/advice.

I can't speak to the diesel, but can say my 2014 has no noise or vibration in the steering column. Somethings not right and I don't recall hearing comments on this forum about this problem.

Only clarification is many cars with the Pirelli P Zero tires, (or similar summer tires) will have a shudder / skipping when tight turning wheel in cold weather. This is tire related not steering. If you have all seasons or non performance tires this should not noticed. If the dealer replaced whole steering something doesn't seem right here.

If this happens with the vehicle not moving, it sure shouldn't be related to any moving part such as tyres, wheels, or an element of the transmission per se. I think I recall the direction is hydraumechanical on pre-2018 models. Could it be linked to a malfunction of the hydraulic pump, that would stutter or something when steering wheel reaches full left or right lock? Btw, does it happen the same when in left vs right lock?

Hi alb, thanks for your input.
I realise it's most likely the pump or some other system actuated in connection with steering. I am not even talking about full lock, at the very first push on the steering wheel either left or right the feedback is felt. The reason I posted is mainly because the dealer claimed all Ghiblis behave like that and I was curious to hear if other owners concur; my car did not behave like that until recently.

Not normal. This happened to my 2015 SQ4 2 months before lease end. It was like a buzzing, almost electrical type sound and would get louder as you turned the steering wheel. They fixed it in the same way you described, replacing steering column/system. It was fine for about a month and then the sound started coming back. But then my lease was up so it was no longer my problem.

When I was at the dealer we would change the ENTIRE hydraulic system. Hoses, power steering cooler, pump, full system flush, steering rack, everything. And then the factory would ask if it was fixed and 90% of the time it was. Of course it’s different when it’s under warranty and you don’t have to pay for all of that. Some pumps have a very very very tight tolerance and they get metal flakes and overheat which causes an issue whenever the system is pressurized

OK, just to conclude this sorry saga: took the Ghibli to another main dealer. Their mechanic checked the steering and said something wa not right, and would I arrange to send the car next week to see what can be done.
Contacted Maserati Assistance who transported the car to the dealer. The dealer then said there was nothing wrong with the steering!! Can you believe these people?!
I couldn't take any more of this crap and sold the car.
